Moments In Time

"Moments in Time" encompasses the sense of wonderment that the skies give me. Each distinct cloud provides both recognizable patterns as well as the ever-changing shapes that comes with individual perspective. They can take up whole sections of the landscape, provide a backdrop for a range of subtly shifting colors, and hold an endless capacity to reflect our own thoughts. I’ve captured these moments where the clouds fill up the endless expanse of the sky and provides all those attributes of wonder to me to create this series.

Focusing primarily on the space between objects in nature, "Moments in Time” utilizes the negative space as well as the constraints that watercolor provides. The changing size of the paper works to show the variation of perspective that one has when observing such an unobtrusive yet massive aspect of our environment. The number of smaller sizes of the paper works to show the fragments of time that can be taken throughout busy days that go on to add up to a greater collection of experience

"Moments in Time" uses a multitude of simple shapes and tones with abruptly shifting values to capture the ethereal nature of the subject matter. Matte areas and muted shading juxtapose with subtle shifts to scrape out depth. The tension between continuous detail as seen in contemporary landscapes and muting of detail common in abstract compositions mirrors the difficulty of human vision to fully observe nature. Detail is forcibly heaped from one area and blended with another in order to depict this familiar subject matter. Each brush stroke is an endeavor to depict a convincing and honest reflection of wonderment. To bring close something that is distant and immense in scale without diminishing the feeling reality provides.
